RebeccaR

ebecca Anderson studied Vocal Performance at the University of Michigan with Martha Sheil (New York City Opera) and George Shirley (Metropolitan Opera New York City).  At the University of Michigan, Rebecca was involved in numerous Operas under the direction of Joshua  Major, Keith Warner of London, Kenneth Keisler and Martin Katz.   While studying at U of M, Rebecca received a full fellowship for her Masters in Music and Vocal Performance.  Rebecca was cast in several leading roles in full staged productions, including playing the role of Queen Tytania Opposite David Daniels  ("today's gold standard among countertenors."  Chicago Tribune) in Brittan’s Midsummer Night’s Dream in 1995 which was reviewed in Opera Magazine, London in 1996.

Not content with being limited to the repertoire of classical music, Rebecca expanded her vocal horizons to jazz, folk, rock, and funk, gospel and pop.  Rebecca began performing alongside her husband Hans under the name Double Helix making their live debut at the 2000 Detroit Electronic Music Festival. After playing a limited number of performances over the next year in the Detroit/Ann Arbor area, double helix began a series of studio adventures that would yield recordings for Planet E (Detroit), Rush Hour (Amsterdam), Ypsi United (Ypsilanti), Emoticon (Glasgow), and Transmat (Detroit).  They also had the privilege of playing at the 2003 Movement Festival (the fourth annual version of the DEMF).  Rebecca has been working as a freelance musician for the past 12 years keeping active in pop and gospel studio singing, song writing, arranging directing and vocal coaching.     Rebecca has worked with gospel recording artist, Marcus Cole, recorded voice overs for the Cheetah Girls (Disney), and many more.  It is rare to find a teacher who has Rebecca’s top notch classical training and unique ability to cross from genre to genre with ease both in her own performance as well as in the teaching of others.
